More Fix Prop 47 Petition Drive-By Events This Weekend:  This coming weekend there are several drive-by petition signing events. If you want to stop and sign a petition, here are some local places you can find volunteers ready to help:

  • East Sacramento – The Limelight 1014 Alhambra Boulevard @ J Street 10:00 AM – 2:00 PM (If you can come out, bring a friend or 5 too.  We are trying to get more signatures than the Land Park group over at Freeport Bakery—make us proud Midtown-East Sac friends!  And we have an extra hour to get signatures!)
  • Land Park – Freeport Bakery 2966 Freeport Boulevard 10:00 AM – 1:00 PM (Tell ‘em MESA sent you!)
  • Carmichael – Milagro Center 6241 Fair Oaks Boulevard (west side between Marconi and El Camino Avenues) 8:00 AM throughout the day.
  • Folsom – Walmart 1018 Riley Street 10:00 AM-2:00PM
  • Rancho Cordova – Sacramento GOP Headquarters 9851 Horn Road south of Folsom Boulevard 12:00-??

McKinley Park Trash Dash tomorrow, February 10th:  Plan to come out this Saturday for our monthly Trash Dash, and this is our quarterly event sponsored by the City of Sacramento Recycling and Solid Waste division.  We will be there, and Mother Nature has a sunny day in store for us!  This is a very family friendly event, and also a great opportunity for any local students to get community service credits.

Neighborhood Clean-up Grant Awardee:  With the help of Friends of East Sacramento, MESA has received a grant from the city’s Recycling and Solid Waste division to support our Trash Dash quarterly.  We will be focusing on the Northern Alhambra Corridor (B Street to J Street between 28th and Alhambra Blvd).  This of course includes McKinley Park and Miwok Middle School.  Our grant is $800 for this quarter and will cover supplies for our efforts and refreshments.  This grant is intended to help clean up our local areas while also increasing recycling education and efforts.  We’ll have trash grabbers and trash bags—as well as recycling bags to put anything that can be recycled in.  Our awesome Parks team will be out with the Tool Trailer so we can really get things done—such as cleaning out storm drains in the area and cleaning up some of the park areas.   My friendly landscaper neighbor is committed to help in the Rose Garden this time! Come out, meet some new friends and make our neighborhood shiny. Our group will be out there from 10 am until noon, meeting up by the duck pond. Bring work gloves if you have them, and stay hydrated!  For more information on this event please visit the Facebook page here: https://fb.me/e/1QwSNhyyI or on Nextdoor here:  https://nextdoor.com/p/6wWhH3RMf4b7?utm_source=share&extras=MTM0OTc2NjQ%3D&utm_campaign=1706904189171

And Coffee and Donuts, as well as Pizza is on MESA!  With our grant we have coffee, donuts and pizza covered.  An army of volunteers marches on their stomaches, so we want you well fed, energized and hydrated tomorrow.  Bring along your thermal coffee cup for hot coffee or cold water, and stay after our Trash Dash for pizza on us.

Look for our signs at the park!

ADA Class Action Lawsuit Against City and County of Sacramento for Blocking Mobility Disabled from Using Public Sidewalks:  The ADA lawsuit against the City and County of Sacramento continues, with it entering into the discovery stage.   If you have pictures or video of sidewalks blocked either in the County of City, please send them to sacwalksafe@gmail.com. Include information about where the blockage occurred, when, and any directional information you can add (south sidewalk of E Street underpass, etc.)

Expenses for discovery and depositions will be substantial. If you are able to help with expenses, please send a tax deductible donation to Friends of East Sacramento. Click here for more information.  And THANK YOU to everyone who has donated so far!  We have almost all of the expenses covered up to this point!

DCR Reporting on the Homeless Response:  Want to find out what the city’s doing?  Check out the newly created dashboard with all the information on how they are addressing the homelessness crisis:  https://app.powerbigov.us/view?r=eyJrIjoiMDU1OGYwMDItM2M4MC00MDlhLWIwMTYtNGNiNDY1ZjRlNDE2IiwidCI6ImUzN2UwMWYyLTU0MWItNGZmZC1iOGQ0LTc2YWVlOGI4YzA4ZCJ9&pageName=ReportSection
