Ice Cream Social for National Night Out on August 4 from 7-9 pm:  National Night Out is happening on Tuesday, August 4, 2026, and the Sacramento Police Department is excited to join neighborhoods across the city for this annual evening of community and crime prevention.  It’s a great opportunity to meet your local officers, strengthen neighborhood connections, promote public safety, and show that our communities are united and looking out for one another.

MESA, Friends of East Sacramento, East Sacramento Preservation, East Sacramento Community Association and East Sacramento Chamber of Commerce are putting on an Ice Cream Social!  Bring the family, friends and your sweet tooth!  We look forward to talking with our local law enforcement professionals and neighbors!

MESA Community Members’ Opinions Published in The Sacramento Bee:  Following our meeting with the SacBee, two of our community members’ opinions were published in the paper.

We have this article about the proposed development at 30th and C Streets:  Why East Sacramento residents oppose Alhambra project: https://www.sacbee.com/opinion/op-ed/article316334880.html

And this article about the items given out by Harm Reduction Services and the need to provide addiction recovery treatment:

How Sacramento normalizes drug use instead of leading people to treatment https://www.sacbee.com/opinion/article316553772.html

Upcoming McKinley Park Trash Dashes: Want to help keep McKinley Park beautiful?  Come help at one of our Trash Dashes. We meet up at the Duck Pond in front of the Playground at 10 am and work until high noon.  Here’s when we are out next:

  • August 9—Postponed. We are focusing our energy on National Night Out Ice Cream Social on August 4th—Be there or be square.
  • September 20—This is our BIG TRASH DASH with coffee and donuts to power us up and pizza afterwards.
  • October 25 – Get out, enjoy the fall weather and prepare for spooky trick-or-treaters in the neighborhood.

Nothing Happens Unless Someone Knows There’s a Problem.  Ever wonder why something isn’t being done about an unsafe situation in the area?  If it isn’t reported to the City, it is as if it isn’t happening.  So, REPORT, REPORT, REPORT.  We all need to report issues that are happening to create a record of the problem with the city.  If you see something off in your area, report it.  It has been discovered that the only way the City is responding to issues regarding People Experiencing Homelessness (PEH) is if a 311 report is filed.  Call 311, or better yet, use the 311 app to report issues with PEH.  Here’s the link to the app: https://www.cityofsacramento.gov/information-technology/311/sac311-smartphone-app

Let Our Councilmember Know: Our Councilmember, Phil Pluckebaum, needs to know the issues we are facing.  Blocked sidewalk along your kid’s walk to the Clunie Pool?  Unleashed dogs causing you worry at the park?  Unsafe conditions in the park at night?  Contact Pluckebaum’s office.  Phone is best at 916-808-7004.  Email is ok too (but not responded to timely), and is district4@cityofsacramento.org.  Voicing your concerns at City Council Meetings and at meet and greet events CM Pluckebaum participates in is also encouraged.

Don’t Hesitate to Contact 911, Sac Police or Fire When Necessary. If you see something not right in the neighborhood, REPORT IT. We have all seen unsafe conditions in our neighborhood. If you see a situation unfolding that could cause harm to anyone or anything, call 911. If you need to report something to our police force, but it isn’t an emergency situation, please call the SacPD non-emergency number at 916-808-5471. See a fire burning where it shouldn’t? Call Sac Metro Fire’s number at 916-228-3035. If you are having other issues, contact 311. Report issues to 311, but if you know it is an emergency, don’t hesitate—call 911.

DCR Reporting on the Homeless Response:  Want to find out what the city’s doing? Check out the dashboard with all the information on how it’s are addressing the homelessness crisis:  https://app.powerbigov.us/view?r=eyJrIjoiMDU1OGYwMDItM2M4MC00MDlhLWIwMTYtNGNiNDY1ZjRlNDE2IiwidCI6ImUzN2UwMWYyLTU0MWItNGZmZC1iOGQ0LTc2YWVlOGI4YzA4ZCJ9&pageName=ReportSection

Keep Spreading the Word: We are over 300 subscribers strong, and our subscribers are VERY engaged!  THANK YOU! We love sharing what’s going on in the neighborhood. Please encourage friends and families to join our mailing list. And remember, if you ever want to unsubscribe, we understand. Just hit the link at the bottom of this email and it will be taken care of.  See you around the neighborhood!
