Update on the SacBee Open House this Past Thursday: Bee Executive Editor Chris Fusco and   Director of Community Outreach and Opinion Journalism Marcos Breton hosted 10 of us at the SacBee offices at The Cannery on Alhambra Blvd.  We had a tour of the offices and overview of the paper’s operation.  We discussed the paper’s role in our local community and urged SacBee to bring more diverse perspectives to their editorial and news reports.

El Dorado Elementary School Site Request for Historic Preservation Support:  On Wednesday June 17th at 5:30 pm the City’s Preservation Commission will hear the application for El Dorado Elementary, the former school at 5241 J Street.  Please find more information here, along with a sample letter to show your support of preserving the building.  Send emails to Sdecourcy@cityofsacramento.org.

City Auditor Evaluation of Homeless Shelter Programs:  This past week the city audit on homeless shelter programs was released.  For more information, click here.

Nothing Happens Unless Someone Knows There’s a Problem.  Ever wonder why something isn’t being done about an unsafe situation in the area?  If it isn’t reported to the City, it is as if it isn’t happening.  So, REPORT, REPORT, REPORT.  We all need to report issues that are happening to create a record of the problem with the city.  If you see something off in your area, report it.  It has been discovered that the only way the City is responding to issues regarding People Experiencing Homelessness (PEH) is if a 311 report is filed.  Call 311, or better yet, use the 311 app to report issues with PEH.  Here’s the link to the app: https://www.cityofsacramento.gov/information-technology/311/sac311-smartphone-app

Let Our Councilmember Know: Our Councilmember, Phil Pluckebaum, needs to know the issues we are facing.  Blocked sidewalk along your kid’s walk to school?  Unleashed dogs causing you worry at the park?  Unsafe conditions in the park at night?  Contact Pluckebaum’s office.  Phone is best at 916-808-7004.  Email is ok too (but not responded to timely), and is district4@cityofsacramento.org.  Voicing your concerns at City Council Meetings and at meet and greet events CM Pluckebaum participates in is also encouraged.

Don’t Hesitate to Contact 911, Sac Police or Fire When Necessary. If you see something not right in the neighborhood, REPORT IT. We have all seen unsafe conditions in our neighborhood. If you see a situation unfolding that could cause harm to anyone or anything, call 911. If you need to report something to our police force, but it isn’t an emergency situation, please call the SacPD non-emergency number at 916-808-5471. See a fire burning where it shouldn’t? Call Sac Metro Fire’s number at 916-228-3035. If you are having other issues, contact 311. Report issues to 311, but if you know it is an emergency, don’t hesitate—call 911.

DCR Reporting on the Homeless Response:  Want to find out what the city’s doing? Check out the dashboard with all the information on how it’s are addressing the homelessness crisis:  https://app.powerbigov.us/view?r=eyJrIjoiMDU1OGYwMDItM2M4MC00MDlhLWIwMTYtNGNiNDY1ZjRlNDE2IiwidCI6ImUzN2UwMWYyLTU0MWItNGZmZC1iOGQ0LTc2YWVlOGI4YzA4ZCJ9&pageName=ReportSection

Keep Spreading the Word: We are over 300 subscribers strong, and our subscribers are VERY engaged!  THANK YOU! We love sharing what’s going on in the neighborhood. Please encourage friends and families to join our mailing list. And remember, if you ever want to unsubscribe, we understand. Just hit the link at the bottom of this email and it will be taken care of.  See you around the neighborhood!
