Get Involved: Tuesday’s City Council Budget and Audit Committee Meeting at 11 am. Tomorrow at 11 am the third item on the agenda is the budget. There is still a lot of pressure to eliminate positions within the Sacramento Police Department. If you would like to pledge your support for a fully staffed police department, please attend the meeting and speak on Item 3. You can find the link to the agenda here: https://sacramento.granicus.
You can put in a comment to this item here: https://sacramento.
SacPD Chief put together this overview of what would happen if staffing levels are reduced. If you have ever been frustrated when the police don’t respond quickly, think about the response times if there are fewer officers working. Show up and speak, send an e-comment, or contact your Councilmember and Mayor.

And Get Involved in County Government at the County Board of Supervisors Budget Meeting on Wednesday June 4th at 9:30 am. The Board of Supervisors are discussing budget cuts to many programs and departments in the county due to budget deficits. The county is proposing substantial cuts to the District Attorney’s office. The cuts will directly cut the Community Prosecution Unit. This unit handles chronic and unique issues in our community including theft, vandalism, drug dealing, and prostitution. These are the issues making many MESA neighbors feel unsafe and unprotected in our community. To prioritize public safety in our county, please attend the meeting, speak about the topic, and let our elected officials know what is important to us. The BOS will begin hearings on this devastating budget on Wednesday, June 4th, at 9:30 a.m. in Board Chambers at the Sacramento County Administration building (700 H Street, Sacramento). If you are able to attend, please confirm your attendance by emailing Catrina Ranumat RanumC@sacda.org and Rochelle Beardsley BeardsleyR@sacda.org. Let’s show the Board of Supervisors that we prioritize public safety above all else.

Fundraiser for Pedestrian Safety at Phoebe Hearst Elementary: In January 2022 a Phoebe Hearst mother of two students was killed walking from her job at SMUD to pick up her daughters at the school. A speeding driver ran the red light in front of the school, collided with a car full of kindergarteners, and struck and killer this mom at the intersection. Monica Morong, a mother of 4 Phoebe Hearst Dragons, is fundraising to put in an LED sign for pedestrians safety at this intersection. Please help Monica and the Phoebe Hearst Traffic Safety Committee to raise funds for this effort—this is a effort near and dear to many MESA members. Find out more HERE.
Southside Park Pool Opening on June 14th! The pool at Southside Park has been closed for repairs for WAY TOO LONG, but it is reopening on June 14th. This is a great way to start the summer season in Sacramento—and visit the park which is our city’s accessible park for kids with disabilities. Every child deserves a safe place to play, thrive and make friends — and SWIM! Come out for a fun and FREE opening day.
Nothing Happens Unless Someone Knows There’s a Problem. Ever wonder why something isn’t being done about an unsafe situation in the area? If it isn’t reported to the City, it is as if it isn’t happening. So, REPORT, REPORT, REPORT. We all need to report issues that are happening to create a record of the problem with the city. If you see something off in your area, report it. It has been discovered that the only way the City is responding to issues regarding People Experiencing Homelessness (PEH) is if a 311 report is filed. Call 311, or better yet, use the 311 app to report issues with PEH. Here’s the link to the app: https://www.cityofsacramento.gov/information-technology/311/sac311-smartphone-app
What Can You Do to Help?: MESA is a group of neighbors who are working to improve the livability of our neighborhood. We don’t know what is happening unless you let us know. Tell us when you hear about an unsafe situation in the area. How can you spread the word?
But Don’t Hesitate to Contact 911, Sac Police or Fire When Necessary. If you see something not right in the neighborhood, REPORT IT. We have all seen unsafe conditions in our neighborhood. If you see a situation unfolding that could cause harm to anyone or anything, call 911. If you need to report something to our police force, but it isn’t an emergency situation, please call the SacPD non-emergency number at 916-808-5471. See a fire burning where it shouldn’t? Call Sac Metro Fire’s number at 916-228-3035. If you are having other issues, contact 311. Report issues to 311, but if you know it is an emergency, don’t hesitate—call 911.
