MESA is Helping Improve Safety in the Neighborhood: Recently a vandal was throwing rocks at the windows of businesses and residences in the McKinley Park area. Through the help of several MESA neighbors we were interviewed on ABC and CBS for the nightly news on April 1, 2025. Here’s a link to the stories: ABC10 and CBSSacramento After the stories were filmed, neighbors spotted the vandal at McKinley Park. They detained the man, called police and the man was arrested. MESA has been talking regularly with Sac Police and the District Attorney, and we have found out that the man will be charged with three felonies. This comes on the heels of the arrest of Christian Glazier who has been arrested twice for violent crimes at McKinley Park. The Christian Glazier incident was reported by KCRA, click here for the story. With the help of our group, we have been able to partner with law enforcement which in turn has created faster response times for situations around our neighborhood, and stricter penalties to those committing crimes here.
Vandalism Needs to be Reported: Lots of businesses in the area have been having windows broken, trees and landscaping destroyed and other forms of vandalism committed to their propery. Report criminal activity to SacPD non-emergency number at 916-808-5471.
What Can You Do to Help?: MESA is a group of neighbors who are working to improve the livability of our neighborhood. We don’t know what is happening unless you let us know. Tell us when you hear about an unsafe situation in the area. How can you spread the word?

McKinley Park Trash Dash This Sunday 10 am to Noon: We need all our Trash Dashers out on Sunday for our monthly pick-up party at McKinley Park. It should be a beautiful day, making it the perfect time to come out and perk up our beautiful park. Come meet up by the Duck Pond at McKinley Park and help us clean up around the park. We will have our litter getters, trash bags, gloves and lots of friendly faces out to make our park shiny. For more information, visit the Facebook link here or find a link to Nextdoor here.
MESA Meeting with District Attorney Thien Ho: The founders of MESA met earlier this month with District Attorney Thien Ho and his Principal Criminal Attorney. We discussed the current state of safety in Sacramento County and learned about new programs being put into place to provide drug treatment and mental health diversion to people who need help in our community. We also discussed how we can continue to strengthen our relationship with both the DAs office as well as local law enforcement. DA Thien Ho and MESA are working on a community meeting towards the end of the summer. Stay tuned for the time, date and place of that meeting.
Nothing Happens Unless Someone Knows There’s a Problem. Ever wonder why something isn’t being done about an unsafe situation in the area? If it isn’t reported to the City, it is as if it isn’t happening. So, REPORT, REPORT, REPORT. We all need to report issues that are happening to create a record of the problem with the city. If you see something off in your area, report it. It has been discovered that the only way the City is responding to issues regarding People Experiencing Homelessness (PEH) is if a 311 report is filed. Call 311, or better yet, use the 311 app to report issues with PEH. Here’s the link to the app: https://www.cityofsacramento.
But Don’t Hesitate to Contact 911, Sac Police or Fire When Necessary. If you see something not right in the neighborhood, REPORT IT. We have all seen unsafe conditions in our neighborhood. If you see a situation unfolding that could cause harm to anyone or anything, call 911. If you need to report something to our police force, but it isn’t an emergency situation, please call the SacPD non-emergency number at 916-808-5471. See a fire burning where it shouldn’t? Call Sac Metro Fire’s number at 916-228-3035. If you are having other issues, contact 311. Report issues to 311, but if you know it is an emergency, don’t hesitate—call 911.
