Fix Prop 47 Petition Signing Events This Weekend:  Retail theft has been in the news a lot recently.  Part of the issue retailers and law enforcement agencies are facing is due to Proposition 47 which was approved by voters in 2014.  This proposition reclassified many crimes from felonies to misdemeanors.  This puts a crimp on what law enforcement can do when people are stealing as well as when people are selling or using drugs in public.  To learn more about this campaign please visit https://casafecommunities.com.  Here’s where you can sign:

Round 2 Tree Planting at McKinley Park March 16th:  East Sacramento Preservation Neighborhood Association has a set date for Phase 2 tree planting in McKinley Park.  On March 16th at 9 am – 12pm, we need 30 volunteers to plant 9-10 trees.  The City Staff has already augered the holes for planting.  City staff with give a demonstration on how to plant and to stake the trees. The trees are provided by the Sacramento Tree Foundation supported by a grant from SMUD. We volunteers will need to clear the pre-augered hole with shovels, plant, and stake the trees. Finally, mulch will be placed around the newly planted tree to help with moisture control as well as providing organic nourishment to the trees.  This is a good opportunity to give back to our community.  It’s a lot of fun.  Invite some of your friends/neighbors to join us.  Please RSVP to Will Green at wgreen@surewest.net

McKinley Park Trash Dash Sunday, March 24:  Plan to come out later this month for our Trash Dash.

We also have these dates planned for the future

ADA Class Action Lawsuit Against City and County of Sacramento for Blocking Mobility Disabled from Using Public Sidewalks:  The ADA lawsuit against the City and County of Sacramento continues, with it entering into the discovery stage.   The discovery will include obtaining information from the 311 reporting system on homeless blocking of sidewalks followed by depositions of City and County elected officials and employees. Attorney Louis Demas is continuing to work on the plaintiffs’ behalf on a pro bono basis so they will not have to pay attorneys fees. Expenses for discovery and depositions will be substantial.
