Support for the Fix Prop 47 Ballot Initiative:  We had an overwhelming turnout to the various Fix Prop 47 signature gathering events, and it was great to have many of our MESA subscribers come out and help the campaign.  We were able to gather over 910,000 signatures on the petition to see The Homelessness, Drug Addiction, and Theft Reduction Act appear on the November ballot. Our group had some of the highest citizen gathered signatures of any ballot initiative in California’s history.  Thank you for everyone that helped out!

We knew there would be hurdles to cross to actually get this to the ballot.  We are currently urging you to help continue to make our citizen voices heard with our elected officials.    Although this is a bipartisan initiative the California Legislature is voting on “poison pill” bills this week that are intentionally designed to hurt the Fix Prop 47 initiative.

MESA was founded to get people involved in our local governmental process and work on solutions to increase safety and find help for the homeless people in our community.  Our Fix Prop 47 group is encouraging people to contact our local legislators and ask them not to support the package of bills around retail theft which include a poison pill, nullifying them if the ballot initiative to fix Prop 47 passes.

I’m asking you to call and leave a voice message TODAY and TOMORROW and share the following information with our local Assembly Members:

“I live in your district in California and I’m a strong supporter of the initiative to fix Prop 47. I’ve learned that you will be voting on “poison pill” bills that are intentionally designed to hurt the initiative. I’m totally opposed to this type of dirty politics and I urge you to oppose any such “poison pill” scheme.” Thank you.

Kevin McCarty,

State Assembly

(916) 324-4676

Stephanie Nguyen

State Assembly

(916) 319-2010

Additionally, please contact members of the Assembly and Public Safety Committees to ask them to stop playing politics with our public safety, and oppose these bills unless they are amended to remove the “poison pill” provisions.  Californian citizens deserve to decide whether to reform Prop 47 without the Legislature and Attorney General playing politics with public safety.

Please forward this message to anyone you know that has signed the petition.
