McKinley Park Trash Dash Tomorrow, Sunday, December 17th: We have a sunny but cool day on forecast, which means we’ll be out to enjoy the sunshine, each other’s company and will be incentivized to work fast to stay warm! This is a very family friendly event, and also a great opportunity for any local students to get community service credits. We’ll have trash grabbers and trash bags—as well as recycling bags to put anything that can be recycled in. Come out, meet some new friends and make our neighborhood shiny. Our group will be out there from 10 am until noon, meeting up by the duck pond. Bring work gloves if you have them, and stay hydrated! For more information on this event please visit the Facebook page here: https://fb.me/e/5SU346fYm or on Nextdoor here: https://nextdoor.com/p/ General MESA Meeting Last Month. After our monthly Trash Dash last month we had an informal MESA meeting. A lot of good questions were raised and we had a good discussion. Thank you to everyone who participated. That’s what MESA is all about: Neighbors Bringing Issues to the Table to Strengthen our Community! Tree Planting at McKinley Park January 6th: East Sacramento Preservation is working with Sacramento City Parks Arborist and Sacramento Tree Foundation to replace trees in McKinley Park. On January 6th at 10 am, we need 30-35 volunteers to plant 10-12 trees. The City Staff will provide equipment to auger the holes for planting and the stakes. Volunteers are needed to plant, stake, water and mulch the trees. Please RSVP to Will Green, wgreen@surewest.net. This is a good opportunity to start off the New Year with giving back to our community. Volunteers Needed – Point-In-Time Count January 24 and 25: Next month the Point-In-Time (PIT) Count will be conducted over two nights. This is an important data collection project to find out how many people are experiencing homelessness in the city, and allow appropriate funding from the county and state to help those who are unhoused in our community. https:// Neighborhood Watch Information: For anyone interested in setting up a NA program near them, here’s some great info: SacPD has a dedicated team for NW and is in touch with MESA about setting up programs here. The idea is to have a small geographical area, say 1-2 residential blocks, with 8-10 people involved in the NW program. The area would have an identity, say 123 Mayberry St NW. There would be a lead for the group, and there would be key members who are in touch with SacPD and making sure communications are going out to the group. You can connect with neighborhoodwatch@pd. If We’ve Said it Once, We’ve Said it a Dozen Times: If you see Something Not Right in the Neighborhood, REPORT IT: We have all seen unsafe conditions in our neighborhood. If you see a situation unfolding that could cause harm to anyone, call 911. If you need to report something to our police force, but it isn’t an emergency situation, please call the SacPD non-emergency number at 916-808-5471. See a fire burning where it shouldn’t? Call Sac Metro Fire’s number at 916-228-3035. If you are having other issues, contact 311. Report issues to 311, but if you know it is an emergency, don’t hesitate—call 911. Why Do We Keep Nagging You?: The city is keeping track of 311 reports, and sending out assistance where there are a lot of reports. If you check the DCR report (link below), you can see where the 311 “hot spots” are. If the city doesn’t get reports on 311 about issues in our neighborhood they are blind to the problem . So—we’ll keep nagging you to report, report, report. And we thank everyone who does the reporting! DCR Reporting on the Homeless Response: Want to find out what the city’s doing? Check out the newly created dashboard with all the information on how they are addressing the homelessness crisis: https://app.powerbigov.us/ ADA Class Action Lawsuit Against City and County of Sacramento for Blocking Mobility Disabled from Using Public Sidewalks: The ADA lawsuit against the City and County of Sacramento continues. Lawyers unsuccessfully met for an all day mediation on November 3rd before a retired Superior Court Judge. After the federal judge issues a scheduling order, discovery will begin. The discovery will include D4 Councilmember Candidate Forum January 10th from 6-7:30: Join us at First Church of the Nazarene to learn about the candidates for City Council that would be representing us. This will be a local District 4 neighborhood association led forum for the candidates running for City Council. Keep Spreading the Word: Our distribution list just keeps growing. We continue to be over 310 subscribers strong! We love sharing what’s going on in the neighborhood. Please encourage friends and families to join our mailing list. And remember, if you ever want to unsubscribe, we understand. Just hit the link at the bottom of this email and it will be taken care of. See you around the neighborhood!
