Hi Neighbors,

Here’s what’s been going around in the neighborhood:

Mayor Steinberg Met with MESA Last Saturday at McKinley Park: Last Saturday Mayor Steinberg and several members of his staff met with MESA members at McKinley Park to discuss safety issues, criminal activity, our Safe Routes to School program and representation for Councilmember Harris’ district when his term ends. To view this meeting visit https://youtu.be/zcJ1tWsKgFM. It was also covered by KCRA in this piece.

Trash Dash Tomorrow at McKinley Park: MESA along with Sacramento Picks It Up will be doing a Trash Dash at McKinley Park Saturday starting at 10 am. We’ll meet up at the Duck Pond. MESA has several trash grabbers and garbage bags provided by City Parks, and they will have a dumpster out for our haul. The weather should be gorgeous, so please plan to come out and pick things up around our neighborhood. For more details, please visit https://fb.me/e/1I3HJI2ra

Safe Routes to School Zoom Meeting Tuesday at 7 pm: This past Thursday we had a sign-up for families at Sutter Middle School’s 7th grade orientation. Lots of people were happy to hear about our Safe Route plan. We also got Mayor Steinberg’s commitment to support our Safe Route to School, specifically at the G Street Underpass between 29th and 30th streets. Our last Zoom call and our meeting with the Mayor had several people commit to helping with the Safe Route. We will connect with all the new Sutter families via email and invite them to this Zoom meeting. Everyone who is up for helping chaperone students to and from school from 28th Street up G Street to Sutter Middle School WE NEED YOU! Please plan to attend this meeting so we can go over the plan for the first day of school, coming up next Thursday, September 1, 2022. Zoom details will be sent out in a separate email. Interested in getting involved? Please email info@midtowneastsac.org for info.

Sidewalk Ordinance Passed Unanimously at the City Council Meeting on Tuesday, August 23rd: With the help of Councilmember Harris there will be a new City ordinance that enforces 4 feet of passable area on all City sidewalks. The ordinance will go into effect on September 23rd. We appreciate everyone who attended the meeting, put in comments, contacted the Mayor, City Manager and City Councilmembers to urge their support of this ordinance. Mayor Steinberg did add a resolution to the ordinance, but overall it will be a good tool to let everyone have usable sidewalks.

And Some Reminders:

Report Illegal Activity: DCR wants to make sure we know to report criminal activity to 311. If there is an emergency, don’t hesitate to call 911. And if it is a police non-emergency matter, please call 916-808-5471. See Something – Say Something. By reporting suspicious or illegal activity we are letting our City know what is going on here. Without speaking up, we won’t experience any reduction in crime.
