Here’s what’s been going on around the neighborhood:
City Councilmembers and Redistricting: On Tuesday, Sacramento City Council met and one of the items that was discussed was council district representation after redistricting. At the meeting, the City Attorney announced that each district should be represented by the Councilmember that was elected prior to redistricting. This decision, although possibly temporary, means that East Sacramento and River Park are once again represented by Councilmember Jeff Harris. Councilmember Katie Valenzuela shared this YouTube link about this change. Also, find CM Harris’ post on Nextdoor here.
November Ballot Measure to Address Homelessness: On Wednesday the City Council voted to place a measure on the November ballot that would require the city to produce enough emergency shelter for the majority of the city’s homeless. Click here for more information on this from the Mayor’s office.
Yellow Brick Road/Safe Route to School: We are getting a lot of encouraging news around our Yellow Brick Road project. We met with a local business that pledged another $1,000 to the project, bringing our total pledges today to $6,000! Wow, all through word of mouth. Our next step is to have a community meeting along with the Mayor’s office to outline the project further and find out the needs of the kids getting to and from school. We are also thinking about having a “sister school” involved with the project, to improve routes to school for another Sacramento City Unified school.
SacPD Reports: Please find the SacPD press release about the K Street Shooting here.
Crime@midtowneastsac.org: We are up and running with our crime@ email address. Let’s know what’s going on around our neighborhood. Please email concerns and criminal activity to us at crime@midtowneastsac.org
Support our Neighborhood Businesses: Neighbors, we appreciate our friendly shop owners and encourage you to shop local whenever possible. Shout out today to Sunny’s Deli Market on 28th and G. Thank you for always being a friendly place for our kids, and for us to stop by on the way home from school or running out for something last minute!

MESA Members Meeting 4/26 at 6pm: MESA Founding Members met last week to go over some of the issues we are facing in the neighborhood. We are hearing from our members that it is time for a general meeting. Let’s Zoom together on April 26th at 6pm. Zoom links and an agenda to come soon.
MESA Ice Cream Social May 1st: The weather is warming up, and we want to have you come out and enjoy McKinley Park and meet some of our members. MESA will have ice cream and refreshments for all of our neighbors to enjoy. I am sure you’ll know a lot of us, and also make some new friends. This is a very family friendly event. We are getting details on the location, hoping for the new covered picnic area, and will send more info ASAP.
Bike to School Day May 4th: National Bike to School Day is May 4th, and MESA is planning a fun bike day for Sutter students, and we’re planning to invite some of the other local schools to join up by bike after school at Sutter’s Landing. We’ll have a shaved ice vendor, bike safety clinic and a raffle for some cool bike stuff!
