MESA: MIDTOWN-EAST SAC ADVOCATES
Neighbors Bringing Issues to the Table to Strengthen our Community
Hi Neighbors,
Here’s our first newsletter from info@midtowneastsac.org. I want to thank my volunteers who have gotten this up and running! Please add info@midtowneastsac.org to your email safe list so this message doesn’t get stuck in SPAM!
Here’s what’s been going on around the neighborhood:
Sutter’s Landing Safe Parking Proposal: Earlier this week Councilmember Valenzuela announced that plans to have a Safe Parking area at Sutter’s Landing is no longer being explored.
Lanatt Street Safe Ground Camping Location: Today Councilmember Valenzuela informed MESA that Lanatt is not being explored as a Safe Ground site. There was a significant amount of questions raised about this location, and it is not being proposed as a camping site now.
Hope for Sacramento/Haven for Hope Model: At our February 5th meeting at McKinley Village Chris Jones with Hope for Sacramento spoke about the creation of a Haven for Hope model here in Sacramento. Check out www.hopeforsacramento.org, or www.havenforhope.org. Click here for some more information about this organization.
SacPD Reports: Click here for the most recent Monthly Chief’s Report from SacPD
SacPD Patrols around McKinley Park: In response to the attack on the woman at McKinley park last weekend, you will be seeing more police patrols in the area. Remember, SacPD is working hard for us. Say “Hi” and appreciate their attention to our neighborhood
SacPD K9 Unit Patrols: Not only is SacPD patrolling McKinley Park more, the K9 units are out walking the park as well. Don’t be surprised if one of these beautiful canines is off leash. SacPD K9 Unit Officers use time at the park and during a patrol to work on their commands. K9 officers out chasing a ball, heeling, or doing other commands are great to have around. And no, this is not against the leash law. K9 units can have the dogs off leash per code regulations. Email me at info@midtowneastsac.org if you want the city code.
Councilmember Valenzuela’s Responses to Written Questions at McKinley Park Meeting on 2/5. Please find our Councilmember’s responses to the questions that were written in prior to the meeting on 2/5 here. She also responded to these in real time at the meeting. I was not able to capture the ad lib questions/answers that were asked at the meeting.
Trash Dash Saturday, February 19th at McKinley Park. Sacramento Picks it Up is having a Trash Dash at McKinley Park tomorrow from 10 am until noon. For more info visit the event here: https://fb.me/e/1sVo1TFpD
Effective Messaging with Our Elected Officials: This week a lot of heated debate was going on around the proposed camps at McKinley Village and Lanatt Street. We want to have focused and respectful communications with our neighbors and our elected officials. Please remember we are working on solutions to the issues our neighborhood is facing. Respectful communications can go a long way in creating collaboration, and hopefully solution finding, with our group.
