McKinley Park Trash Dash November 23rd:  Plan to come out the Sunday before Thanksgiving for our monthly Trash Dash.  This is our quarterly event sponsored by the City of Sacramento Recycling and Solid Waste division.  This is a very family friendly event, and also a great opportunity for any local students to get community service credits.

Neighborhood Clean-up Grant Awardee:  With the help of Friends of East Sacramento, MESA has received a grant from the city’s Recycling and Solid Waste division to support our Trash Dash quarterly.  We will be focusing on the Northern Alhambra Corridor (B Street to J Street between 28th and Alhambra Blvd).  This of course includes McKinley Park and Miwok Middle School.  Our grant is $800 for this quarter and will cover supplies for our efforts and refreshments.  We’ll have trash grabbers and trash bags.

Come out, meet some new friends and make our neighborhood shiny. Our group will be out there from 10 am until noon, meeting up by the duck pond. Bring work gloves if you have them, and stay hydrated!  For more information on this event please visit the Facebook page here and on Nextdoor here.  And Coffee and Donuts, as well as Pizza is on MESA!

Development of the Former Building at 30th St & Alhambra between C and D Streets: The owners of the property at this location have put plans into the city to develop the location into housing.  For the last two decades the building has been mostly vacant. The City is reviewing the development proposal.  Several neighborhood groups are discussing the project and determining what the neighborhood desires for the location.  Neighbors immediately adjacent to the property have put together great information about the proposed development, as well as raising important issues that could impact the community.  Find their overview of the project here and key points linked here.  The Casa Loma Terrace Neighborhood Association included information about the project and major concerns in this letter to the Sac Bee housing writer Theresa Clift.

MESA wants your input!  Please complete this short survey about the project and your concerns about it.  We’d love your input prior to the Town Hall with CM Pluckebaum, so fill it out today.  8 questions, should take less than 3 minutes.

Missing Historic Landmark Plaque at Stanford Park:  Recently neighbors noticed that the plaque commemorating Sutter’s Landing was removed from the stone at the corner of 28th and C Streets at Stanford Park.  Below are pictures of what was there, and what the stone looks like now.  We would like information from anyone who may have seen this plaque removed.  Please email sacwalksafe@gmail.com or text 916-802-1280 with any information.  If this was vandalism, it could be charged as a felony.

Nothing Happens Unless Someone Knows There’s a Problem.  Ever wonder why something isn’t being done about an unsafe situation in the area?  If it isn’t reported to the City, it is as if it isn’t happening.  So, REPORT, REPORT, REPORT.  We all need to report issues that are happening to create a record of the problem with the city.  If you see something off in your area, report it.  It has been discovered that the only way the City is responding to issues regarding People Experiencing Homelessness (PEH) is if a 311 report is filed.  Call 311, or better yet, use the 311 app to report issues with PEH.  Here’s the link to the app: https://www.cityofsacramento.gov/information-technology/311/sac311-smartphone-app

Don’t Hesitate to Contact 911, Sac Police or Fire When Necessary. If you see something not right in the neighborhood, REPORT IT. We have all seen unsafe conditions in our neighborhood. If you see a situation unfolding that could cause harm to anyone or anything, call 911. If you need to report something to our police force, but it isn’t an emergency situation, please call the SacPD non-emergency number at 916-808-5471. See a fire burning where it shouldn’t? Call Sac Metro Fire’s number at 916-228-3035. If you are having other issues, contact 311. Report issues to 311, but if you know it is an emergency, don’t hesitate—call 911.
